open mic night {my little brother sings}

30 Mar
On Wednesday night, my brother sang at an open mic night. He has done a few but this was the first one we went to. He was amazing!!

There were a bunch of us there, family and friends. It was so wonderful to have everyone there together. And we all love his singing.

He sang 3 songs, 2 were covers and 1 was an original. I took a video of him singing his original song, which is an older one but I absolutely love it!
Everyone clapped and loved it! I can’t wait til we go to another one to hear him singing! Yay!

bystander {a portrait in apathy}

30 Mar
Today at school we had an assembly called Bystander: A Portrait in Apathy. It is about bullying and how kids need to not be bystanders and need to stand up and say something when they know bullying is going on. It was very powerful.

First we watched some PSAs about bullying that the 8th graders made at the beginning of the year. Then there was a slide presentation mixed with students from our school saying a script. The presentations included information and pictures of students who have committed suicide because of bullying. The last picture they showed was of a 9 year old boy who committed suicide because of bullying. It was a powerful statement to end the presentation with.

I definitely got choked up. I think a presentation like this can really impact a lot of kids and help them not be afraid to speak up. If anyone works at a middle school, I would suggest looking into this program. I think it could make a big difference in a school and in students’ lives.
Here is the website to check any information: http://www.bystander.us/index.html
We really need to stop kids from bullying.

photo challenge {day 28 – trash}

28 Mar
So I was having a hard time figuring out what to take for today’s photo. I didn’t want to take a picture of the trash can….
So I decided to take a picture of one of our trash the dress photos. We have a large canvas of our favorite shot above our bed. We also have shoe box lids covered in fabric around it. I guess those lids would be considered trash…..
