summer fun {canobie lake park}

31 Aug

A whole group of us were trying to do all kinds of things this summer. We didn’t really do as much as we wanted. However, we finally found a night when most of us could make it to Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH. It is a small amusement park that is about 45 minutes away. We went on all the best rides and it was a ton of fun.
The first ride we went on was the carousel. Obviously.

I love the way the ferris wheel looks during the day and all lit up at night.

Here is a collage of a bunch of other wonderful rides we went on.

We had lots of fun and I’m so glad we found a night we could go.

summer fun {bike ride to the beach}

31 Aug

I had been wanting to ride my bike down to the beach for a while. One day a few weeks ago the weather was really nice and I decided to just go for it. It was a wonderful ride and a wonderful view when I got there.

On the way back, I stopped at a little pond where there is a path way down to a bench. It was a little overgrown but it looked really pretty.

It was a gorgeous way to spend a summer morning and a great workout.

books i’m reading {room}

31 Aug

My friend recommended that I read Room by Emma Donoghue. I got it from the library the other day and just finished reading it this morning. It was definitely an interesting book and different from anything I have read. I really enjoyed this book.

{description – from shelfari}
To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it’s where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits.
Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it’s not enough…not for her or for him. She devises a bold escape plan, one that relies on her young son’s bravery and a lot of luck. What she does not realize is just how unprepared she is for the plan to actually work.
Told entirely in the language of the energetic, pragmatic five-year-old Jack, ROOM is a celebration of resilience and the limitless bond between parent and child, a brilliantly executed novel about what it means to journey from one world to another.
I think this is a really interesting concept for a book and I’m really glad that I read it. One thing that bothered me is that there are not real chapters, there are just 4 sections of the book. This made it hard for me to stop reading sometimes because I wanted a certain place to stop. This isn’t really that big of a deal just a little thing.
I would definitely recommended this book for anyone who is up for something a little different.

first day of school {today}

28 Aug
Today was the first day of school with the kids. I was feeling really nervous. I am doing a long term sub job again this year. The teacher who had a baby last year, Ryan, is having another baby and I am covering her maternity leave again. She hasn’t had her baby yet. She is due in a couple of weeks. We’re both working in the classroom until she leaves. She wants me to be completely in charge, which makes sense. I was feeling kind of weird about it because it is her room and her things and having her still there was making me uncomfortable. I know her really well and it wasn’t her specifically. It is hard to explain.
Today I was mostly in charge in the classroom. Ryan was in the room but she stayed mostly in the back and only jumped in when I was missing something when explaining the hand book and things like that. It worked out really well. And I felt much more comfortable.
The class I had last year was so awful. However, this year, they seem to be much better. At least as of right now. I know it was only the first day but they seem like really good kids. Which makes me so happy. I really want to have a better year this year. So far so good.
I got tons of compliments on my outfit today so I thought I would share. I know the pictures aren’t that great but we don’t have a good “take a picture of yourself” place.

I got this dress at Target a couple weeks ago for $12.50! It came with a skinny string that matched the dress. I had this black ribbon hanging in my closet. I think it was from another piece of clothing. I tied that around my waist and I think it looked much better.
It was super hot today so I knew I needed to have my hair up. I braided around the side and did a messy bun in the back.

I feel much better going back tomorrow after how well today went. Hopefully the whole year will go this well. Fingers crossed.

5k {three weeks to go}

28 Aug

I know I am a little bit behind on this post. It is actually 3 weeks from this past Saturday. So I guess it is actually about 2 1/2 weeks away. Holy Cow.
I cannot believe it is so close.
The past week has been kind of crazy. I was starting work at Seabrook Middle again. I had a training on Wednesday and a completely full day of work Thursday.
I ran 5 times last week, including this past Sunday. My shins were hurting me a lot. Again. So frustrating because I feel like I just can’t catch a break. I ran on Sunday.
Dan wanted to do some hill workouts so he wanted to run Mt. Agamenticus. No thank you. I went with him and just ran on the road, which was a little hilly. Definitely more hilly than I am used to. However, I had read online that sometimes if you lean too far forward while you’re running, that can hurt your shins. On Sunday I tried to lean back and it really helped. They were a little sore but it definitely felt better. I ran a total of 2.47 miles in 25 minutes. It felt so good. It made me feel better that maybe I won’t be in so much pain up until the 5k.
I haven’t run since Sunday. I plan on going again tomorrow and I am definitely going to keep up the training.
Hope everyone is having a good week!
