happy new year!

1 Jan

Happy New Year to all the readers of this blog! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!

I decided to share some of my favorite pictures from the past year. They are some favorite moments and favorite pictures. It was so hard to choose and I ended up with more than I thought. But that is ok. Hope you like them.

2012 was not a great year for me. It started off really crappy and didn’t get much better. I wasn’t that sad to see 2012 come to an end.

I’m hoping that 2013 will be much better.

Dan and I have been talking about resolutions and I thought I would share some with you guys.

I already posted about my running goal of 700 miles in one year. I started that one off right today by running a 5k, which I will post about later.

I’m planning on participating in the 365 Project and taking and posting a picture every day at You can follow me there if you’d like.

Dan and I decided that we need to watch TV less and actually get some more things done. We’re going to spend more time just listening to music and doing things around the apartment that we need to do.

I’m also going to get more serious about opening an Etsy shop. I’ve been thinking about it a lot over my vacation and I have some ideas. When my long term sub job is over at the beginning of March, I will have more time to concentrate on my crafts.

I am also planning on checking some more things off of my 30 by 30 list so we will see how that goes.

I hope everyone has had a great start to their year and that it continues to go wonderfully.

Happy New Year!

i have no words

16 Dec

I have no words for what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary on Friday.

I am so sad about all the children who lost their lives so early and to the teachers and other school personnel who lost their lives trying to protect the children.

It makes me so sad and makes my heart so heavy to think about all of those little children who had to live through this tragedy. All those children who will be terrified to go back to school, which should be a safe place.

I have been reading about what the teachers did to protect their students. They are heroes. They put their lives on the line and did whatever they could to hide those kids.

I am a teacher and I absolutely cannot imagine having to go through something like that. It makes me wonder….would I instinctively know what to do to protect my students? Would I say the right things to them so they know they are safe and loved? It is such a scary thing to think about.

I hope that we can remember the victims in this situation and not just focus on the crazy man who took all those lives. All of those 6 and 7 year old children who had so much of their lives ahead of them. And the teachers who are heroes in my eyes. I will remember them always.

My heart goes out to everyone involved in the situation.

sounds of the seacoast {3rd place medalists}

11 Dec

A couple weeks ago, I flew to Florida to sing with my chorus in the Harmony, Inc. international barbershop competition. I sing with a women’s chorus based in Portsmouth, NH. I have been singing with them for a little less than a year and this was my first international singing with this chorus.

I worked on Thursday and Dan picked me up to take me to the airport right after work. I flew to Florida and got to the hotel around midnight. My mom was already there and I was exhausted, so I basically went right to bed.

We stayed at the Buena Vista Palace. There are 2 buildings and we were staying at the building towards the back. There are palm trees everywhere and a little bridge that crosses some water.

On Friday, my mom and I woke up to exercise. Then we got ready for the day. The quartet contest was on Friday so we went to the hall to watch the contest. There were a lot of quartets but it was a good contest. They chose the top 10 who would then compete in the finals Friday night.

After the afternoon contest, I went to Downtown Disney with the “kids” of the chorus to grab some dinner. I had never been to Downtown Disney, so I loved walking around and seeing everything, like the crazy lego structures.

We had dinner at Planet Hollywood. The food was yummy and the drinks were delicious!

I love how Downtown Disney was all decorated with lights everywhere. It was gorgeous.

 After dinner, we went back to watch the quartet finals. The quartets were so good! It was a great contest!

Saturday was the chorus contest. We got up and got ready to compete! The chorus met to rehearse a little then separated so everyone could get dressed in our sparkly teal tops and flowy pants. The contest was great. We all felt amazing after we sang. We watched the rest of the contest and waited patiently for the results.

We came in 3rd!!! And we were so close to 1st place. Amazing. It felt great and made it feel like it is really possible for us to win, very soon, like maybe next year?

Saturday night we had a pizza party for the chorus. Then we went to the showcase, where all of the medalists sing a song. We also took some fun photos with a Disney background. We took a bunch of “kid” photos, all the younger people who sing in the chorus. It was a fun night.

We stayed up late Saturday night, hanging out and singing. Sunday morning I was exhausted. I had to get up to get ready to leave. I got all packed up and ready. Before I left, we had breakfast with my stepbrother Sean and his girlfriend. They live in Orlando so I wanted to be able to spend a little time with them while I was down there. It was a nice breakfast but then I had to head out to the airport.

I got a window seat on the plane next to a nice older couple who were both reading on their Kindles. The sky was gorgeous when we were taking off and landing.

Dan picked me up at the airport and I was so ready to go home. It was a wonderful weekend but I was exhausted.

{So I got way busier over the weekend then I thought and didn’t end up having time to post. I’m hoping to get caught up on the last month of posting very soon. So please keep checking back.}

Hope everyone is having a great week!

school fun {halloween}

1 Nov

I meant to post this yesterday but just didn’t have a chance. So I am posting it now.

Yesterday was Halloween. We didn’t really do much at school for the holiday, but I thought I would share what I did do.

Last week some time I hung up a Happy Halloween banner and some black bats that I cut out. I thought it looked fun and got our classroom in the spirit.

Yesterday I had the students write their favorite candy up on the board so we could see what everyone likes. I thought it was fitting for Halloween.

On another note, I cannot believe that it is already November. Holy cow. Where is the time going???

I filled out our dry erase calendar last night and we are going to be super busy this month. Not to mention that I don’t think we have a real full week at school this whole month which I think will make the month just fly by.

Does anyone else have a crazy month ahead of them??

Happy almost Friday everyone!

hurricane sandy {checking out the storm}

30 Oct

I had yesterday off. School was closed because of Hurricane Sandy. And Dan left work early because of the storm. So of course, what would we decide to do? Go out in the storm of course.

We decided to head down to the beach to check out the waves and the wind. The wind was so so so strong. I don’t think I have ever been in wind that strong. I think at one point I was actually leaning into the wind and still standing.

We weren’t the only crazy ones to brave the storm….

We were ready for the weather. At least I was with my huge yellow rainboots.

We left Hampton Beach and went down the street a little to the beach we usually go to. We couldn’t even make it down the steps because of all of the sea foam and how high the water was.

And the wind was blowing so hard we were getting attacked by sea foam blowing all over the place.

The storm wasn’t really that bad here. Just some rain and a lot of wind. We didn’t lose power but I know there are a lot of people who did. I hope everyone is staying safe and gets their power back soon.

Does anyone else go out in the storm to check out the beach or the area?
