couch to 5k {eight weeks down, two to go}

26 Jun
I am getting close to the end of this program and I’m glad.
I was very proud of myself this week. I ran the longest amount of time that I have run and I felt great. I was also running a new route because I’m getting bored with the old one. Dan has been running this route so I started the new one this week.
The 1st day was walk 3 minutes, run 12 minutes, walk 3 minutes, run 12 minutes, walk 3 minutes.
This day was really hot. I went first thing in the morning and it was already about 90 degrees. I think the heat affected me. I was having a little trouble with my breathing. I ran the first 12 minutes fine but had a little harder time with the second 12 minutes. There is a hill towards the end of the route and I had to stop at the top of the hill and walk for a little bit. I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t run the whole 12 minutes but I only walked for about 40 seconds so it wasn’t too bad.
The 2nd day was walk 3 minutes, run 12 minutes, walk 3 minutes, run 14 minutes, walk 3 minutes.
I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to run 14 minutes after I had to stop and walk during the 12 minutes. However, I made it the whole 14 minutes without stopping to walk, even going up the hill. I was so proud of myself. Dan ran with me this day and I think that might have helped because I push myself harder when he is with me.
The 3rd day was walk 3 minutes, run 12 minutes, walk 2 minutes, run 14 minutes, walk 3 minutes.
I did the 3rd day today. I reversed the route just to mix it up and that meant the hill was more towards the beginning and it was downhill. I felt ok today but I did have a hard time towards the end of the 14 minutes. I made it the whole way though!
I feel really good after finishing this week. I feel like I am really starting to be able to run a good amount of time and it feels great! Every day has been about 3 miles and that feels good because I feel like I will be able to run the 5k. I would love to be able to run the entire 5k. I guess we will see.
I’m a little nervous about the next week. The first run is 20 minutes. Dan says if I run 14 minutes, I can run 20 but I’m not so sure. I will try my best to do the whole 20 minutes. Last time I had to do 20 minutes, I couldn’t do it. I really hope I can this time and I will push myself to finish. I will keep you guys posted!

couch to 5k {four weeks down, five to go}

29 May
I finished the fourth week of the couch to 5k program on Sunday. This week was a little harder, which I know is the point, but I think I did ok. My shins didn’t really hurt as much. I’ve been trying to stretch them out more on a regular basis and it seems to be helping.
This week was a 5 minute warm up walk, 3 minutes of jogging, 90 seconds of walking, 5 minutes of jogging, 2.5 minutes of walking, 3 minutes of jogging, 90 seconds of walking, 5 minutes of jogging, and a 5 minute cool down walk.
This week coming up is when it starts to change every day. I’m a little worried about it because it goes from 5 minutes to 8 minutes to 20 minutes. I feel like that is a big jump but I guess we will see how it goes.

couch to 5k {two weeks down, seven to go}

15 May
On Sunday, I finished my second week of the couch to 5k program. The weather has been kind of rainy on and off but I did get all of my runs in on the days I wanted to. I felt really tired this week so it seemed a little difficult, but not too bad.

All of week 2 was a brisk 5 minute warmup walk, alternating 90 seconds of jogging and 2 minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes, then a 5 minute cool down walk.
Next week it starts to get a little harder so we will see how it goes.

couch to 5k {one week down, eight to go}

8 May
I mentioned the couch to 5k program that I was starting in a recent post. I started it last Wednesday and finished the first week on Sunday. The program is 3 non consecutive days each week for 9 weeks.
The first week was a brisk five minute warmup walk, alternating 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for 20 minutes, then a 5 minute cool down. Jogging for 60 seconds was pretty easy but I know the program will continue to get harder, which I know is the point. Hopefully this program will help me build up my stamina for a 5k in September.
I will start the second week tomorrow and hopefully it will keep feeling pretty easy.

couch to 5k

2 May
I have been trying to be better at exercising. I have been doing pretty well but all this stuff keeps coming up to throw me off track. This week I am trying to get back on track.
My mom always has a 5k for her nonprofit organization, BreastCancerStories.org, in September. I decided this year I want to try and run the 5k. So, I decided to do a couch to 5k program to get myself ready. And I am starting today.
I found the couch to 5k program on Pinterest but I know that is has been all around. I found an app on my phone so I can follow it while I’m running. I think this will work really well for me….hopefully anyway. I will keep you all updated on my progress. Wish me luck!
