thanksgiving {in ny}

18 Dec

I know this post is way late. I thought I was going to be able to catch up on my posts faster but hopefully I can get some done this week.

For Thanksgiving, Dan and I traveled to NY to go to his parent’s house. We left Tuesday night when Dan got out of work. We got there late, around 10:30. I pretty much went right to bed.

On Wednesday, Dan and I relaxed for a bit and went for a quick run. His brother, sister-in-law, and niece Abby showed up in the early afternoon. We were very excited to see them because we don’t get to see them very often with how far we live from each other. Wednesday afternoon and evening were spent just relaxing and spending time together. We all read a lot of books with Abby, and she loves her Unkie Dan.

Thursday morning we got up early so Dan and his brother, Jon, could run in the Turkey Trot 5k. Amanda, Abby, and I went with them as support. It was cold and we got all bundled up to wait for them to cross the finish line. We spent lots of time walking back and forth on the wall.

Later in the day, we bundled up again to head to the playground down the street.

Thanksgiving dinner was delicious. A few family members came over and we had tons of delicious food that Dan’s mom made. I was sooo full by the end of the meal. It was a nice, relaxed, family dinner.

On Friday, we just relaxed as a family and spent time together. It was the last day we were all going to be there so we just wanted to spend time together. We like to soak in all the time we get with Abby because she is growing up so fast.

We left Saturday around 12 to drive home. It was a wonderful way to spend our Thanksgiving holiday and it was so nice to see family that we don’t get to see often.

fall fun {columbus day weekend}

16 Oct

Columbus Day weekend was last weekend. We had a long weekend and it was crazy busy. We, of course, filled pretty much every minute of the weekend up because that is just what we do.

Friday night we relaxed because we knew we had a busy weekend ahead.

Saturday morning started out bright and early with us heading to Dover for Dan to run a 5k. After the 5k, we walked around the Apple Harvest Festival, which was crazy packed, even at 10am.

From there, we headed home so Dan could shower. Then we went right back out to meet up with some friends at the Portsmouth BrewFest. A bunch of breweries all come together so people can taste all of their beers. There were so many breweries and beers and people. It was crazy. I’m not really a beer drinker at all but I did try a few and ended up liking at least 1. It ended up being really warm but it was a blast hanging out with some faves.

After the BrewFest, Dan and I left so we could drive right to New York for a wedding on Sunday. When we got to the hotel, we hung out with the bride and groom and a few of their friends before we needed to go to bed because we were exhausted.

The wedding wasn’t until the afternoon on Sunday, so we decided to use our time in Plattsburgh and go to Ausable Chasm. It is this really cool place with about 5 miles of trails. Some go right along the chasm, which is what we mostly walked. I loved being right there on the small stone pathways and hearing the water rushing by.

There was also a trail that went down to a dry chasm. There was beautiful foliage throughout the trail.

At the end of all the trails, there was a big bridge that gave a fantastic view of the waterfall.

After Ausable Chasm, we went back to the hotel room to get ready for the wedding. The wedding was for one of our friends from college. They live in North Carolina and we barely ever get to see them so it was really great to be able to celebrate with them on their wedding day.

The ceremony was in a beautiful ivy covered chapel. It was gorgeous inside and out. The reception was at a hall down the road and there was delicious food and good music.

After the 2 busy days we had already had, we were exhausted. We took our time getting ready Monday morning then headed out of NY to come home. The sky was amazing when we took the ferry from NY to VT. I had to take some pictures.

We were going to do a little hiking on our way home but it just didn’t work out how we thought. We did do some leaf peeping though. The foliage was gorgeous.

We found this really amazing little area with a curvy road and tons of yellowy trees. So beautiful. There were tons of people there but I managed to take some good pictures.

Driving down the road a little further, we got a view of some mountains. And there was snow on them. SNOW. I am not ready for that.

All in all, it was a really great weekend full of a ton of fun, crazy, and amazing activities. And we were exhausted when we got home. I went to bed early Monday and Tuesday night. But it was worth it.

ny for the weekend

14 May
This past weekend Dan and I went to NY to visit his parents. We haven’t gone in a little bit because we have been so busy. This was one of our only free weekends in about 2 months so we decided it would be good to go for a visit.
The weekend was so gorgeous so I decided to snap some pictures outside.

Dan found a 4 leaf clover. ❤

This is Lola. So cute.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

spring time {in NY}

10 Apr
A couple of weekends ago, Dan and I went to visit his parents in NY. We went for a run at a park and there were some beautiful blooms. I think they are a little ahead of us here in NH when it comes to spring blooms. When our run was finished, I went back with our camera to snap some pretty pictures of the flowers.

christmas number one {NY}

4 Jan

So, first of all, I have not been keeping up with this blog. I think life just got so busy and this just was not near the top of my list and therefore got kind of forgotten. I would think of it now and then and wish I had time to do some blogging….but the time just wasn’t there. Now my long term sub job is over so I have a lot more time on my hands. And I plan on blogging a lot more.

We celebrated Christmas a few times so I thought I would share our celebrations.

Our first Christmas was at Dan’s parent’s. We went to NY on Friday night, the 23rd, and stayed until Tuesday. It was a lot of relaxing and book reading for me, which is always good.

On Christmas, we opened some presents and had dinner with just his parents, and his sister and her boyfriend.

That night, Dan and I drove around looking for Christmas lights. We found some, but nothing really spectacular. Maybe next year.

Overall, it was a nice, relaxing trip to see his parents. And it was a great first Christmas celebration.
